Bat Castle. There isn’t much that can be said, or needs to be said about this band. I mean, there name is fucking Bat Castle. If that doesn’t peak your interest, then you can just go ahead and close out this page, and search for Daughtry songs on Yousuck.com This is metal done right. It’s metal with an attitude. It’s metal with a sense of humor. It’s metal with a snarl. Dude, BAT CASTLE.

Band of the Week – Shapes Stars Make

Posted in Band of the Week on May 9th, 2010 by No Signal Radio

One can only assume that the shape a star makes is a star-shaped, but then again, what the hell do I know? Nonetheless, this band has now produced 2 cds that I am very proud to have in my collection. And wouldn’t you know it, they were both produced by John Congleton. The man is a sonic genius. I had the opportunity to see SSM at the Granada several months ago and their sound lends itself to theaters, it’s very epic and grand. If you get a chance to see them live, do it. Witnessing it in person, is much better than blasting it out of your car with the windows rolled down. Come to think of it, nevermind, both of those scenarios are pretty awesome.

Artist of the Week – Sarah Jaffe

So, I was gonna write out this long, wordy blog about how Sarah Jaffe’s last name rhymed with taffy. I was gonna compare her music to the sweetness of the candy. Talk about how, much like taffy, if you take too big a bite of it, it’s gonna stick with you for a while. Then I realized I was just sugarcoating what needed to be said. Sarah Jaffe’s music does not need to be played up, or sold to you. It’s real, it’s honest, and it’s for all of us. It comes from the heart, the soul, and everything around us. And I guess, like taffy, when you crave it, it is the only thing that will hit the spot.

Band of the Week – The House Harkonnen

Posted in Band of the Week on April 18th, 2010 by No Signal Radio

The periodic table is somewhat of a sham. There is no HK on it, and quite frankly, there should be. I mean, come on, one listen to Volume 6 and my ears were oozing awesomeness. One of the most blistering and well-produced CDs I have heard out of a local band in a long time. How many bands do you know out there that have dual guitar solos? DUAL! That’s 2, for the laymen. Go see their shows, buy their CDs and shirts. Give them your paycheck. Have their babies. The House Harkonnen is probably the best band in DFW and they deserve an element named after them. Here’s a video with aforementioned dual guitar solos. Enjoy!

Band of the Week – Constant Seas

Posted in Band of the Week on January 31st, 2010 by No Signal Radio

If I hear someone use the term “Explosions in the Sky” as an adjective to describe a band, I’m gonna lose my shit. Anytime I hear a love song, I’m gonna say “Hey, this sounds like Barry Manilow”, when in fact, it does not sound like Barry Manilow. Let’s come up with another adjective to describe their music. How about ‘ethereal’? Defined as: aeriform: characterized by lightness and insubstantiality; as impalpable or intangible as air. I can see that. That describes what Constant Seas does. Visit them and listen. With a list of influences that look like this, “mineral, saxon shore, mogwai, mono, this will destroy you, the appleseed cast, explosions in the sky, isis, the album leaf, jeniferever”, how can you go wrong?
